How did Macduff affect the plot of Macbeth?

he was on to Macbeth's plan all along wondering how him and lady macbeth killed the servants/guards so fast, he was suspicious. and everyone umed it was king Duncan's sons who fled not because they killed their father but they were afraid that person would come and kill them too
